University of Michigan Wellness Conference Update
Representatives from Cowan recently attended the University of Michigan wellness conference. The conference was highly informative and focused on creating cultures of health in the workplace in order to maintain high-performance and business success. With a continued emphasis on keeping healthy people healthy, conference speakers shared their unique corporate wellness strategies and resources. The second day of the conference focused on five pillars of a Champion Company, as identified in Dee Edington's book Zero Trends: engaged senior leadership, empowered operations leadership, self-leadership, incentives and recognition, and ongoing quality assurance. Conference attendees gained applicable knowledge and tools to support, assess, and develop their own programming.

Senate Leaves for Easter Recess without Extending COBRA Subsidy
The Senate adjourned on March 26th for a two-week recess without passing House-approved H.R. 4851 (the Continuing Extension Act of 2010). If passed, the bill would extend the 65% COBRA premium subsidy retroactively to April 1. The bill would also extend current Medicare payment rates and other programs such as certain unemployment insurance programs. The Senate is expected to take up the legislation soon after returning on April 12.
