April is a native of Nashville and has spent over 20 years in the insurance industry. She began her career in 1981 with a small brokerage firm here in Nashville. After nine years, she joined Aetna Health Plans as a marketing representative and spent the next seven years selling employee benefits to all size employer groups, both directly to employers as well as through independent agents and brokers. In 1996, April left Aetna and joined CIGNA Healthcare in a similar capacity, marketing managed care programs to employers with 50-500 employees.
She is now an Account Executive with Cowan Benefit Services, responsible for sales and service of all employee benefit coverage lines to all size employer groups. April's background includes a foundation in indemnity and PPO style products along with extensive experience in managed care programs such as HMO and Point-of-Service. She has handled groups with as few as five employees and as many as 1,000, offering expertise in employee communications and enrollment meeting coordination.
In 1999, April became a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist, a designation earned through a joint program of the International Foundation of Employee Benefits and the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
